Renters Resource: The Community
City of Whitewater Student Brochure
Remember you are not just a tenant; you are a customer, roommate, neighbor and citizen of Whitewater. Here are some common grievances the Whitewater has found with some renters:
Noise
Remember, not everyone is a college student. Many homes within shouting distance are families with small children or elderly adults. It is a difference in lifestyle. You may have nothing to do, but it is fair to assume someone living next to you does.
Parking
In Whitewater, tenants cannot have more than two vehicles per residence parked in view of the road at anytime. It adds an unattractive view to the city. Click here and navigate to chapter 11.16, entitled "Parking Regulations" for more information.
Clutter
Keep your residence tidy. Check to see if anything on the outside is a maintenance code violation (link - checklist). These codes are set up for healthy living, and being kind to the environment. Having clutter decreases property value and increases the odds of confrontation with neighbors. Take care of your residence by picking up other people's garbage and debris left behind by Mother Nature. Click on this link for garbage pick-up dates and policies.
Neighbors
Students in Whitewater can have a better reputation in the city if they follow these guidelines. A few outspoken citizens of Whitewater seek to limit students to certain areas of the city. Do not give them a reason to feel this way, and show that you can be an outstanding citizen by talking with your neighbors and helping them out during any situations as they arise. A little generosity goes a long way and neighbors will probably return the favor if you need it.
