Authorities
WSG is given authority via state resolution 36.09(5):
The students of each institution or campus subject to the responsibilities and powers of the board, the president, the chancellor and the faculty shall be active participants in the immediate governance of and policy development for such institutions. As such, students shall have primary responsibility for the formulation and review of policies concerning student life, services and interests. Students in consultation with the chancellor and subject to the final confirmation of the board shall have the responsibility for the disposition of those student fees which constitute substantial support for campus student activities. The students of each institution or campus shall have the right to organize themselves in a manner they determine and to select their representatives to participate in institutional governance.
The Role of the Senate
The role of the Senate is to serve as the official legislative body for the students of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Wisconsin State Statute 36.09(5) gives students at all UW System universities the right to assist with the governance of their campus with issues about student life. Through having direct contact with school administrators, serving as voting members on most campus committees, and making changes through writing and passing legislation on student issues, WSG is able to be a strong voice that represents all students on campus.
WSG welcomes all students to get involved with their student governance. Our office is located in the Involvement Center of the UC room 140. Feel free to stop in, share your concerns, and meet your student representatives. WSG has weekly Senate meetings on Mondays at 7pm on the 2nd floor of the UC room 259, and all students are welcome to see their student government in action and voice their concerns. It is our hope that with the students' help and input, Whitewater Student Government can help make life better for everyone at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
